For example I have a Dell system, do I need to install all of Dell's software back on my system, like specific hardware drivers or little insignificant programs.

Then the system told me to run the backup program again or I should re-install the backup utility. Of course it doesn't help by just re-installing the program. What finally worked for me was removing the Hardware Drivers via the Contral Panel -> System. The had win95 reinstall them via add hardware.

Also consider that Solaris is now freely downloadable, and I believe the included hardware drivers were developed by Sun (although Solaris isn't open-source, IIRC). If like re-installing software, install a copy of pcAnywhere version 9.0 on a Windows 2000 machine without updating pcAnywhere.

Since you seem to have the free time to keep installing and re-installing new operating systems, let me suggest something... Fuck Windows XP. I use it because I have to, but unless you absolutely must (hardware drivers, for example, or hardcore 3d games/graphics) go find a copy of Windows 2000.

Simply put, I have seen enough failures, and problems as a result of not wiping out the hardware settings in the registry, that I would never simply plug in a new motherboard and boot the computer, without either deleting the Enum key first, or alternatively, re-installing Windows afterward.

As far as I know, reinstalling windows will erase all of your files. It will make your computer the way it was when you bought it. You will need to back up all of your files before re-installing windows. And then install each file - including all drivers - hardware and software individually.

We tried uninstalling the applications and even removing the folders from "Program Files" and re-installing but every the problem was still there. There are son many factors that may be causing your problem from hardware drivers to the hardware itself. Why did you have to reformat and reinstall?
