You should also make sure that you have all the hardware drivers available. Iinstalling the VIA drivers somehow corrupted my video card drivers and I had to re-install. The only way I could boot after installing the VIA drivers was to set the "Hardware Accelleration" under Performance settings to NONE. (If you don't have some device drivers handy on a separate CD or floppy, you can normally let Windows search for the best driver for the device. First question is why are you reinstalling ?? If you reinstall from the existing installation - call it a refresh - then it is pretty safe.

I would suggest downloading the latest drivers (like printer, sound card, video card) from your hardware's respective web sites so you can install them from the beginning, rather than re-installing them later.
