What book(s) are best for learning the next phases, like fine-tuning linux, learning how to install and delete hardware drivers, learning to install and The first thing is that you have to get the idea that re-installing will fix things right out of your head. In many cases, a re-install will just get you right

Re: All In Wonder 128 Driver 4.12.6269 no good... Really?
We also tried re-installing the sound hardware drivers, just to be safe. This is driving me batty. I'm probably going to wipe the machine again, start over and see when / where it quits playing audio CDs so that I know where the problem lies, but this is ridiculous. Any ideas why, even though everything else on the

Re: Help - I have given up hope!
I am now re-installing Mandrake-Linux once more and will select the video parameters manually instead of the automatic selection -- what the heck, But *usually* Mandrake installs even easier than Red Hat, because it has a somewhat newer selection of hardware drivers which increases the odds that any given piece

Re: NEW TX5 LOADS 2 DISPLAY DRIVERS ?????????
They're easy to swap and lack the copplexity (and required interaction during boot) of dual-boot systems. Note: I have kept ME running for a couple of years on a computer without re-installing - but - I have heard of others re-installing frequently. I think it all depends on your hardware and your hardware drivers

Re: Windows XP for your rights
2- Root through the autoexec & config files to identify all the hardware drivers & copy them to a floppy. 3- Remove OLD C, then install & FDISK the new C (per your recipe). 4- Re-install OLD C, run FDISK & CMOS to reconfibure as "D" (per your recipe). 5- Copy hardware drivers from floppy to HD (to run ancient CD,

Re: Preparation for Motherboard swap
I guess that any sensible person would object to a scheme that prevents him or her from re-installing as many times as desired on the present and future PC. With MS, the situation is that because nearly all of the hardware drivers as well as most of the productivity programs presuppose and in fact demand that

Re: ***Hardware malfunction***system has halted
However that method won't work for all types of drivers, and requires re-installing the driver(s) every time the kernel name changes. 3. Linux makes it extremely difficult for hardware vendors to support multiple versions of Linux, even if the vendor was willing to devote some resources to supporting the platform.

Re: Re-installing Windows
With stable hardware/drivers NT (even 3.1) is extremely stable and reliable. The most common problems you will run into (and this is part of the fault of NT I can agree, even if it's not any fault of the actual OS kernel) is that bad application installers will install over newer DLL:s with their own one who is

Re: the BIOS and clean install
It will probably save you time and effort in re-installing Windows XP from scratch. HOWEVER, if you really want to reinstall (and if you do Reinstall from scratch and download/install the latest hardware drivers. 8) Make a manual restoration point. 9) http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ -> scan for updates,

Re: Question about run WIN95 application on OS/2 warp
Hi, I recently started to have a variety of small problems with XP, so decided to re-install over the top of my existing installation, preserving most of my settings. Is there some way to remove all of the hardware drivers and get XP to redetect all my hardware? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re: NAT Networking Problem
I know the drivers are now available from Compaq's web site, but a year ago (when the unit was new), the drivers were not available, and it was months before I could get them. If the QuickRestore CD was set up to permit re-installing the hardware drivers only (and I heard a rumor Compaq's working on this),

Re: Re-Installing Win95 Help
By installing from the hard drive you fool Windows into thinking that the hard drive folder is the Windows CD so that it will go there (C:\Win98) in the future for its support files. You will have to get all Windows critical updates again, update the browser and hardware drivers. What a pain! Tac.

Re: Packard Bell Help!

Re: HELP Please Win95 Startup
It's not reinstalling the apps I'm worried about, for me that's just a matter of gritting my teeth and accepting the time it will take. My worry is installing hardware/drivers - never done it before. I realise it may turn out to be easy enough once I actually read the documentation and settle down to try it,

Re: OS/2 installation problems
Of course, you'll need to re-install your hardware, so the crashes occure. The cable connecting your built in hardware to external devices, don't need to be disconnected. Once disabled in bios, windows won't detect them and thier drivers shouldn't be loading. The post I mentioned above includes a link to a memory

Re: Help! cannot install drivers
If everything runs smoothly, you're all set. If you are having problems, and you can't figure out what's causing them, then back up anything important (which you should be doing anyway), format the hard drive, and install ME clean, with absolutely no apps other than hardware drivers. If you experience the same

Re: Problem after reinstalling
The hardware appears to be working fine, but is no longer recognized by the oppSys. We have tried unpluging & reinserting the drive, and uninstalling the drivers/& re-installing. The Device Manager shows that the drivers are corrupted, or that there is a problem. IBM tried installing the BIOS update and that didn't
